FishyNW – Fishing in North Idaho, Washington, and Oregon
Welcome to FishyNW
Your go to source for fishing in North Idaho and surrounding areas, along with honest lake reports from across Pacific Northwest.
This site is built around Northwest fishing and outdoor experiences from a U.S. Navy veteran, shared without hype or shortcuts. Whether you are paddling out before sunrise, chasing kokanee through deep water, or breaking down a new gear setup, everything here is tested, used, and documented on the water.
No marketing fluff, no recycled content. Just firsthand experience from the lakes, rivers, and backroads I actually fish.
Explore detailed profiles for local waters, read up on seasonal tactics, or check out how I have rigged my kayaks to handle serious fishing and multi day trips. If you are fishing from a kayak, the bank, or a boat, you will find something here that makes your next trip better or at least more prepared.
Thanks for stopping by. I am always adding new blog posts as I keep exploring. If you have tips, ideas, or want to collaborate, drop a line through the contact page.
Upgrading Kayaks
One of my favorite parts of fishing. There’s something satisfying about taking a bare setup and turning it into a well-organized, dialed-in rig that’s ready for anything. I enjoy planning each mod, from choosing the right lighting and power systems to fabricating custom mounts and dashboards. It gives me full control over how I fish and helps me stay efficient and comfortable out on the water.
Every upgrade adds a layer of purpose. When I install a new switch system, route power to my fish finder, or mount a rod holder exactly where I need it, I’m making the kayak work for me. It’s not about having the flashiest gear—it’s about function, comfort, and making each trip smoother. I fish better when my gear is right where it should be.
Upgraded to the MAX!
I added a power system with lithium batteries and a Yak Power switch to control everything from nav lights to deck illumination. A custom aluminum dashboard holds my Garmin fish finder, with clean wiring and a YakAttack track for flexibility.
Old Town Autopilot
Evening trolling sessions on Fernan Lake are very peaceful in the spring and early summer.
Where it all started
What started as a simple blog, mild fishing habit, and the occasional video upload for grandpa’s entertainment has turned into a full-blown obsession.
